People are what make games great! Magic Media is currently seeking a 3D Character Artist to help our team on their next adventure. The ideal candidate enjoys putting their skills and knowledge to use in a variety of styles. Your broader experience in game development and the character art pipeline will help you work collaboratively with designers, concept artists, technical artists, and animators to create an immersive and epic experience.
What you will do:
- Collaborate with the Director, Creative Leads, and Production Teams to understand the vision and requirements for animation in each project.
- Lead and inspire the animation team, providing artistic guidance and ensuring that the animation aligns with the project's creative goals.
- Set the visual and technical standards for animation quality, including character movement, performance, and integration with visual effects.
- Develop character performances that convey emotion, personality, and believability, enhancing the storytelling and engagement of the audience.
- Oversee the creation of animation, from pre-visualization and blocking to final polish, ensuring that it meets the project's artistic and technical standards.
- Implement and maintain efficient workflows that optimize animation production processes while delivering exceptional results.
- Collaborate with rigging, lighting, and visual effects teams to ensure seamless integration of animation into the overall visual aesthetic.
- Provide constructive feedback and mentorship to animators, fostering their growth and maintaining a high level of artistic excellence.
- Stay current with industry trends, animation techniques, and emerging technologies, incorporating them into the animation process where applicable.
- Review and approve animation deliverables, ensuring that they meet the project's creative vision and technical requirements.
- Act as a bridge between creative and technical teams, effectively communicating animation needs and collaborating to solve challenges.
Requirements
- Bachelor's degree in Animation, Fine Arts, or related field (or equivalent experience).
- Proven experience as an Animation Director in the VFX or animation industry, with a strong portfolio showcasing your animation direction and leadership.
- Proficiency in animation software such as Autodesk Maya, along with a solid understanding of animation principles and techniques.
- Strong grasp of character performance, movement, and body language, and the ability to translate these elements into compelling animation.
- Exceptional leadership and communication skills, with the ability to guide and inspire a creative team.
- Deep understanding of storytelling, pacing, and emotional resonance, and the ability to infuse these qualities into animation.
- Experience with motion capture workflows and techniques is a plus.
- Ability to manage multiple projects and priorities in a fast-paced production environment.
- Collaborative mindset and excellent problem-solving abilities, with a commitment to achieving artistic and technical excellence.
